Today's legend's story is going to lead us to Venezuela in the South-American continent, where the forests are believed to be haunted by the spirit of El Silbon( the whistler).

So who actually is this El Silbon? Well it's the story of a family whose child later becomes El Silbon.

It goes as follows there used to be a family in the forest of Venezuela in which there was a father, a mother, their child and his grandfather. Since he was the only child of his family he used to get all the things which he demanded for. His grandfather never liked this, that his parents never have a control on him and gives him whatever he wanted.

His parents never rejected his request whenever he wanted anything. Due to this habit of never neglecting his request, as he grew up his request changed to demand and demand to command.

Now he stopped listening to anybody. He just wanted that he should get whatever he asked for and that's it. His parents must do everything, go anywhere so that his wish could be fulfilled. His parents also never stopped him from demanding and they used to fulfill his wishes thinking that they should do it as he was their only child.

The child had developed a habit of eating the meat of deer which his father used to hunt down. He loved to eat the meat of deer, then one night he demanded to eat the meat of deer. It was dark outside so his parents tried to make him understand that it was difficult to hunt down a deer.

However the child didn't listen to any of his parent's words and stayed on his demand of eating deer's flesh. Looking at the condition his father went out with his gun for deer hunt. He went in deep forest in search of a deer. He was unable to spot any deer at night so it was taking him a long time.

The patience of the child worn out and he went in the jungle to find his father. His mother and grandfather tried to stop him from going in the forest and that also at night but he didn't listen to anybody. He followed the same path which his father took and went deep inside the forest.

After sometime walking on the path he found his father who wasn't able to find any deer. When he found his father he became extremely happy that finally he will be able to eat deer's meat, but when his father said that he didn't found any deer the child's expression change instantaneously.

He took the knife from his father's pocket and stabbed his father. It was so rapid that his father couldn't even defend himself, but his son kept on stabbing him until he died. His son then sliced off some his father's flesh and kept it inside the bag which he had brought, and then he returned home leaving his father's body in the deep forest.

As soon as he returned home he handed over the bag to her mother and said,  "There is deer's flesh in the bag  . Go and cook it for me. I am very hungry."

To this her mother asked, "Where is your father?"

He said that his father had told him that he is going to be late so don't wait for him.

She didn't asked anything more and believed her son and went into the kitchen to cook the deer's flesh for him. But when she started cooking the meat she realized that the meat wasn't of a deer but was of a man.

She began crying and rushed to her son and asked him, "Tell me the truth. Where is your father?"

"I killed him because he didn't bring me deer's meat." He said without any guilt.

On hearing this his mother went unconscious and fell and on the floor but his grandfather lost his control. He grabbed his hairs and dragged him outside and tied him to a tree. He brought his whip and used it on his grandchild until his grandchild's back became red. He then brought the mixture of salt and spices  and rubbed it on his wounds.

His grandchild began screaming very loudly because of the pain. His grandfather then cursed him that he will always roam in the forest and will die of hunger. His grandfather then handed him the bag which contained the flesh of his father and forced him to go into the forest. Soon the child died in the forest because of the pain and hunger.

However it is believed that the child's spirit still roams in the forest of Venezuela. According to the description given by the people who has encountered him, he wears a hat somewhat similar to that of a witch's hat. He has became skinny because of lack of food and he also carries a bag which contains the flesh and bone of his prey.

He usually hunt men who comes to the forest for hunting animals so women and children are not in his list of targets and he whistles around the forest and that's why he got the name of El Silbon(the whistler). If someone hears a constant whistle from behind, then it means that El Silbon is very far from them and the person is safe but if he hears a whistle from far away, then it means that El Silbon is just behind him.

There is no known way of escaping from El Silbon unless you are a woman or a child so it is better not to go in the forest alone, if you are a man. Going in a group  may not help much, so better avoiding hunting to save your life.
