The curse of La Llorona

La Llorona is a Mexican legend which is also a story of  mistake and being cheated which gave birth to a curse which still haunts the people of that area.

The story begins like this, long ago there was small village on the outskirts of Mexico which was near to a river. In that village lived a girl whose name was Maria. Maria came from a very poor family. Actually everyone of the village were poor and the village was also not much developed.

Despite of being poor, Maria was extremely beautiful and  young also. Then came the day when the first chapter of this horror story began. A very rich man, somewhere from the main town near to that village comes to the village. The data is not much provided that why a rich man comes to a poor village like that and what was his name.

According to my theory I believe that he may have came for expanding his business, since he had his own business he might wanted a land to establish a factory. The location of the village was perfect because there was a river very near to it.

He came to the village for his business purpose but he never knew that the village will give him the love of his life. As per every love story the rich man and Maria fell in love with each other and it was a love at first sight.

Maria took time but she somehow convinced her parents about her marriage with the rich and they both even agreed to it. However the rich man hadn't informed anything about it to his parents. 

Soon they both tied the knot of marriage and the rich man decided to take Maria back with him to his town. However the rich man's family was not ready to accept Maria as their daughter-in-law. The rich man's parents told him that how could a poor girl like Maria be a part of their family.

The rich man wasn't ready to leave Maria since he truly loved her. When his parents saw that their son was going against their decision and was taking Maria's side, they banished him from the house and told him to go and live with his wife wherever he wanted to, except for his own house, and he will be only accepted in his house when he leaves Maria.

The rich man didn't have any choice except for leaving his house and go with his wife Maria and he even did so. They both came back to Maria's village and the rich man made a mansion for both of them.

Now from here starts the second chapter. The rich man still had his business and also Maria and they both were living happily. The only problem was this, that the rich had to go to the main town for his business purpose and Maria used to stay alone in the house and due to his work the rich man used to visit Maria once or twice in a month.

Soon Maria's loneliness vanished when she gave birth to her children. She had two children and they were twins. Now Maria began staying busy playing with her kids until one day, the day that marked the final chapter of this story which is still incomplete till today.

The rich man reduced his visit to the village. Now he used to come only once in a month. Although Maria had a ray of hope in the form of her kids but she still felt upset because of her husband not being close to her.

Then one day Maria heard that her husband had left her and had married some other women in the town. Maria couldn't believe it and neither wanted to but on further investigation she found out that the rumors were true.

She couldn't bare it, that her beloved husband who once went against his family for her had left her alone and their kids as well. In anger she took her kids to the river and threw them into it and drowned them. She had lost her consciousness because of the stroke. Later when she regained her consciousness she realized what a terrible deed she had done.

She started weeping loudly for her kids. She became so depressed that she ultimately dived in the river and drowned herself. 

After this when her spirit went to the heaven she wasn't able to pass through the gates to enter the realm. When she asked the reason for it. A voice came and it said that that she did a very unforgivable deed of killing her own children that's why she wasn't allowed to enter Heaven, she must bring the souls of her children from Earth then only she will be allowed.

She was sent back to Earth in search of her children's soul. She looked everywhere in the river for her children but couldn't find them anywhere. Now she was stuck between two world. She didn't belong to the human world anymore and neither could go to the heaven. Due to this she again started crying and became La Llorona (in Mexican language it means the weeping woman).

She still searches for her children in the river of that village so that she can go to the Heaven and her weeping can also be heard, however it is advised not to go near the river because if a person hear her crying then his bad luck begins and he may even die a very painful death.

If a children ever goes near that river and La Llorona finds him then she believes that it's her child and started crying again but once she confirms that it's not her child, she brings the child in to the water by hypnotizing him and once he comes into deep water she drowns him in the river.

Recently a movie is released on 19th of April and it's name is 'The curse of the weeping woman' which it is based on the legend of La Llorna.
